Nepal | Football Association Officials Detained Over Suspected Match-Fixing and Financial Irregularities | CUAC
Civil Union – Follow-up
Nepalese police have detained Nepal Football Association (ANFA) treasurer Rabindra Joshi and accounts officer Sanjeev Pandey as part of an investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau into suspected match-fixing, financial irregularities, and fraud.
Police said the investigation includes circumstances surrounding the hosting of two World Cup 2026 and Asian Cup 2027 joint-qualifying matches between Nepal and Bahrain in Bahrain, despite the qualifying regulations providing for one match to be played in Nepal and the other in Bahrain.
The investigation also covers the purchase of national team kits and equipment, as well as World Cup ticket sales.
Police previously raided the association’s headquarters in Lalitpur and seized electronic devices and documents related to the investigation.
The Lalitpur District Court has granted authorities an additional four days to detain the two officials to complete the investigation.
Police confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional officials could be implicated if their names emerge during questioning.
