Civil Union – Follow-ups
The Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), an entity of the Council of Europe, published today, August 20, 2026, its sixth-round evaluation report on the United Kingdom, following its adoption by GRECO at its plenary meeting in June 2026.
The report assesses measures taken to prevent corruption and strengthen integrity at the subnational level. The evaluation focuses on London, as the capital city, and Kent County, which volunteered to participate and was selected as the second local authority covered by the evaluation.
The report highlighted the positive efforts made by the United Kingdom to prevent corruption and promote integrity at both national and subnational levels, while highlighting examples of good practices within the Greater London Authority and Kent County Council.
The report issued six recommendations aimed at further strengthening these efforts.
The British Government stated that it is currently considering the recommendations and will submit a report on the measures taken to implement them by December 31, 2027, in accordance with GRECO’s Rules of Procedure.
