France | Trial of Rachida Dati Begins in Renault-Nissan Corruption Case | CUAC
Civil Union – Follow-ups The trial of former French Culture Minister Rachida Dati began in France on Wednesday in a case involving allegations of corruption and influence peddling linked to dealings with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Prosecutors accuse Dati of receiving approximately €900,000 from a Dutch company affiliated with the Renault-Nissan Alliance between 2010 and 2012 in exchange for legal consulting services. Investigators also suspect that the payments were linked to political lobbying activities on behalf of the group during her tenure as a member of the European Parliament. Dati denies any wrongdoing and maintains that the payments were made for genuine legal work. Former Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is also being tried in absentia alongside her. The trial is scheduled to continue until September 28. If convicted, Dati could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to €450,000, and a possible five-year ban from holding public office.
