Albania | Intelligence Chief Placed Under House Arrest in Corruption Investigation | CUAC
Civil Union – Follow-up An Albanian court has ordered the head of the country’s intelligence service, Vlora Hyseni, to be placed under house arrest and suspended from her duties as part of an investigation conducted by the Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK). Prosecutors suspect Hyseni of disclosing classified information to unauthorized individuals and allegedly assisting a person accused of committing a crime. The case is part of a broader corruption investigation involving the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI), which is responsible for digital government services and information infrastructure in Albania. According to SPAK, the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime issued the decision on September 21, 2026. However, the house-arrest measure was not immediately enforced, as reports indicated that Hyseni was outside Albania when the decision was issued. The measures in the case also included the arrest of two other individuals, as well as searches of the home of a former police official and a villa complex in the city of Durrës. Hyseni had served as head of Albania’s intelligence service since 2023. Prime Minister Edi Rama confirmed that she had been relieved of her duties, while stressing that criminal responsibility can only be determined by a final court ruling. Source: Reuters
