Kenya | Former Sports Official and Five Others Arrested Over CHAN Tournament Funds | CUAC
Civil Union – Follow-up Kenya’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) announced on Tuesday the arrest of former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Sports, Peter Keremi Kaberia, and five other individuals after the Office of the Attorney General approved charges against them over alleged mismanagement of approximately KES 330 million. The case relates to a KES 1.5 billion contract awarded in preparation for Kenya’s hosting of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN). According to investigators, approximately KES 330 million was paid as an advance to a contracted company, which subsequently failed to fulfill its contractual obligations. The suspects face charges related to economic crimes and corruption, while legal proceedings against them are ongoing. The allegations remain subject to determination by the courts.
