Turkey: OECD Criticizes Weak Enforcement Against Foreign Bribery | CUAC
Civil Union – Follow-ups The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has strongly criticized Turkey’s implementation of the Foreign Bribery Convention, warning of continued shortcomings in legislation and law enforcement mechanisms. The OECD Working Group stated that Turkey continues to face weaknesses in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting allegations of foreign bribery, as well as shortcomings in whistleblower protection and corporate criminal liability. Accordingly, the organization issued a warning calling on parties doing business with Turkish companies to consider strengthening their due diligence measures. The development coincides with a report published by Nordic Monitor today, August 20, 2026, which covered the OECD’s latest criticism and referred to a federal case in the United States involving Turkish energy company Aksa Enerji. U.S. prosecutors allege that company executives were involved in a bribery scheme targeting officials in Ghana in order to secure a contract to build a power plant.
