Nigeria Orders Investigation into Second Fake Government Agency | CUAC
Civil Anti-Corruption Union – Follow-up Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Friday ordered an investigation into a man accused of creating and operating a fake government agency, marking the second case of its kind uncovered by authorities in the country within weeks. Nigeria’s anti-corruption chief, Musa Adamu Aliyu, announced the launch of the investigation after briefing the president on the case in the capital, Abuja. Authorities said the fake agency, known as the “National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office,” had been operating illegally from within a government office. George Botchie Nwabueze is accused of running the agency. The new case comes weeks after authorities uncovered another alleged fake government agency, the “Presidential Council for the Promotion of Foreign Investment,” which had reportedly operated for years while its director met with government officials and obtained public funds. Nigeria’s anti-corruption authorities are continuing their investigation to determine how the fake agency was established and identify the individuals and entities behind its activities.
