Civil Union – Follow-up Argentine businessmen Hugo Jinkis and Mariano Jinkis, former owners of sports marketing company Full Play, have admitted to paying tens of millions of dollars in bribes to international football officials in an effort to obtain media and marketing rights for major tournaments and matches. The admission came as part of an agreement with U.S. prosecutors to avoid trial. Under the agreement, the two men agreed to forfeit $50 million after admitting to participating in a fraud and bribery scheme targeting international football organizations, including FIFA and continental football confederations. The rights they sought included broadcasting rights for World Cup qualifying matches, Copa América tournaments, and other international competitions. Source: Dawn, citing U.S. court documents
