Poland | Two Suspects Detained Over Alleged Fraud Involving EU Funds for Training Older People | CUAC
Civil Union – Follow-up Polish authorities, acting at the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Katowice, detained two people suspected of involvement in fraud and attempted fraud aimed at obtaining European grants for training programs designed to teach older people how to use information technology. According to the investigation, the two suspects, who are representatives of a training company, organized courses for older people between December 2024 and June 2025 to improve their computer and internet skills and promote safe use of digital technologies. The programs were co-financed by the European Social Fund. The EPPO said the suspects received approximately €10,000 and also applied for more than €300,000 for additional training programs. However, the payment was halted after the funding authority was informed about the methods used to recruit participants. The suspects’ homes were also searched, and documents and electronic devices were seized. They were subsequently released under police supervision and required to provide financial guarantees. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office stressed that all persons concerned in the case are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the competent courts in Poland.
