Malaysia | Anti-Corruption Commission Investigates Delayed Rice Fertilizer Supplies to Kedah Farmers | CUAC
Civil Union - Follow-ups
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into delays in the distribution of additional compound fertilizer to rice farmers in the state of Kedah, following a complaint filed by an organization representing rice farmers on August 26.
The investigation focuses on delays by a supplier appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to provide the necessary fertilizer to farmers in areas under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA), which covers approximately 100,000 hectares.
The commission said the investigation is not limited to potential criminal offenses, but also includes examining any governance gaps or shortcomings that may have contributed to the delays.
MACC confirmed that it had recorded a witness statement and obtained several relevant documents.
The investigation follows a directive from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim instructing the commission to investigate the reasons behind the fertilizer supply delays and stressing that legal action should be taken if any violations are established.
Reports indicate that the delays affected approximately 38,000 farmers, while the affected area covered around 78,117 hectares of rice fields.
